Letterboxing

Ok, so I did some more research on the "Geocaching" and found that there is another type of treasure hunt called Letterboxing. People carve their own stamps out of rubber stamping materials or even out of erasers which is much cheaper. Then they put the rubber stamp in a smallish box with a notepad and a pen or pencil and hide it somewhere like a park or something. After it's hidden they create clues as to where it can be found and they post the clues on the internet at www.letterboxing.org or www.atlasquest.org for other people to look up. Other people look up the clues and follow them to where the letterbox is. When they find it they stamp the notebook that is in the letterbox with a rubber stamp that they have created themselves and use especially for marking logbooks in letterboxes. They then take the stamp that is in the letterbox and stamp their own personal logbook. After they get home they can go online and record their find at the letterbox's posting.

My friend Laura, her daughter, me and Jack all went out looking for these letterboxes yesterday. We spent two hours and had no luck. Of course I'm sure it would have been easier without the two toddlers who kept going where they weren't supposed. Jack kept sitting down cause he didn't want to walk anymore. It is a lot of walking. I think next time I go out I'll take the stroller or the backpack carrier. Later, after I dropped Laura off Jack and I went to a place that had one in an easy to get to, short walking distance spot. And Bingo! we had our first find. It was so much fun. I can't wait to go out again.
These letterboxes are hidden all over the country. I'm sure there are some in your area. Check out the websites.
On a side note, we saw a man on a horse at the park we went to and Jack took off running and yelling "Gog Gog Gog Gog Gog!" the man brought the horse over to us so that the kids could see her up close. She seemed a little nervous though so I didn't let Jack pet her. I could just see him getting carried away and scaring the poor thing to death. He was so excited though. First he saw dogs flying in the air and dogs swimming on the lake and then a great big , huge dog with a man on her back. Because we all know if it's not a person it's a dog.

Wow, sounds like Bookcrossing, have you seen that site? You release a book you've read in a park...shopping centre and post details on the net, someone finds it reads and does the same thing! It's loads of fun.

I just love Jack. I think he is the cutest and smartest little guy on two short, chunky legs.

Michelle- I'll have to check that out. Of course I get all my books from the library just down the street. My mom, uh I mean the librarian, is a real stickler for not having her books left for other people to take.

Gramma-shouldn't you post under a different name on this blog? I must agree about the smart little chubby guy. But he comes by the chub honestly doesn't he?

He comes by the smart honestly, too.
