Medieval Faire

We wandered quite a ways north yesterday to visit a recreation of a 1376 European village. It's located in Carnation WA and it's called "Camlann" It's pretty neat. They have built it up quite a bit since I last visited which was right when my DH and I first started dating. This was his first visit. He was expecting something a bit bigger and I should have explained to him how small it is. I, too, was expecting something bigger when I first visited. We're used to the Canterbury Faire that is in Kent every year. This year, however, they decided they were done with it and would instead enhance a different festival. They stink! We loved the Canterbury Faire. We've gone every year for ages.

The Canterbury fair wasn't as authentic as the one in Carnation. The Canterbury Fair was a magnet for weirdos who thought they were from Lord of the Rings or people dressed in goth. The only non(un?)-authentic person we saw at the Camlann Faire was a girl dressed like a belly dancer and she was a visitor not an actor. The actors are required to speak in Chaucer's English at all times and they are all properly trained. They don't sound like they're pretending, they sound like they're from that time period (for the most part). It was a fun day all in all. The highlight was when I went to sit on a bench and Jack yelled "No, No sit on bench! Too big!!" and he said it over and over again while trying to pull me off of it. Now, this is a little embarrassing when you're a person "of size". I was a little put off. I was hoping no one would notice that I'm "portly". Leave it to the kid.

Anyway, we stopped at a couple of fruit stands and pick up some Rainier Cherries and some blueberries. Then we got back in town and the car died in the middle of an intersection. I tried to restart and it puttered out again. Since we have roadside assistance with Progressive I called them and they asked if we were "in the car and safe" I said "No, we're in the middle of a busy intersection." Before I had a chance to mention that we have a baby in the car and it's 93 degrees out (which is no lie) and the car is quickly heating up and it's not safe to get out of the car and cross to the side of the road because we are in the very middle lane of a 7 lane road, the stupid sh*tpot puts me on hold, where I stay until we finally got ourselves out of the intersection and into the parking lot of a restaurant and I hung up. I'm calling them later to complain. Our gas gauge is broken so we watch the mileage and fill up around 130-150 miles (we can normally go at least 190) but this time the mileage was 127 and we didn't take into consideration that we had driven on such a hot day with the air conditioning on and driven up into the mountains which probably drank up a lot more gas than usual. We got more gas and it seemed to be fine. I'm just praying that that's all it was.

Well someone needs his diaper changed. I'll be seeing you!

Cassie, glad to see you're back again.
Yip as they say "Outta the mouth of babes".
I love singing, so does my daughter, and one day in the kitchen we tried a new song of a famous singer and she said to me "oh mum pleeaaase, don't!" I don't think I'm that bad at all, but apparently to her pre-teenager ear I am!
Whow, a 7 lane road, just glad you guys came out of it all safe and well.

I notice she didn't mention that gramma came to the rescue...

Yes, Gramma came to the rescue. She was originally coming for dinner but she rescued us too.

When you say they speak Chaucer's English, do you mean with an accent, or the actual middle English, or the Anglican-Frankish that bridged the gap between the nobles and the commoners?

I'm glad y'all enjoyed the trip. And I'm glad gramma got to come to the rescue!

Well, they don't really speak Chaucer's English, because no one could understand it. But they do a reasonable job of olde English, and it definitely adds to the charm of the place.
