GPS Treasure Hunt

We went to the park today. Twice. Jack just loves it so much, and for an only child it gives him much needed interaction with other children. Anyhow, we were there this afternoon and encountered some boys who along with their dad and grandma were looking for a treasure in the playground. When I asked them about it they told me that they found GPS coordinates online with some clues to where they could find a small treasure. They happened to find one while we were there, it was a couple of small frog erasers and a log of all the people who had found the treasure. Apparently when you find the treasure you make sure you have something to replace it with. These hunters left tiny cars in place of the frogs and signed the log book. This playground has only been in existence for about 3 months but there must have been a hundred signatures in the logbook.
I typed in "gps treasure hunt" into my web browser and brought up a few articles from National Geographic. Apparently this is a popular sport and it's called "geocaching". They even have get togethers where they give coordinates instead of directions. I think we may have to purchase a gps thingy and give this a try. It looks like a lot of fun.

I wouldn't buy a GPS just to go look for trinkets. However, Jack's Daddy goes fishing and whatnot. He might could benefit from one.
