God Help the Hurricane Victims

I was watching The Daily Buzz, a contemporary news program that is based out of Florida. They posed the question: Is looting ok in situations like the hurricane?
It's a difficult question but I don't think any reasonable person could blame citizens who are trying to survive. I don't think that most people are taking things like tv's and computers. They are taking formula for their babies and food for their children and themselves. Aren't these stores going to receive insurance money for their losses?
Humans have an instinct to survive at any cost. Could you imagine forcing yourself to starve to death while there is food available? Or being dehydrated to the point of collapse when bottled water is sitting on a shelf in a store but you cannot pay because your visa check card is either lost in the flooding or won't work because there is no electricity to work the machines? What do we expect from these people?
I can't say that breaking into someone's home is ok. And that's a sticky subject-where do we draw the line? All I can say is I do not judge the people who are "looting" I call it survival.

When i think of looting, i tend to think of it as looting peoples homes, and that's something i will never be comfortable with.
As far as looting for baby formulas...water toilet paper from stores then i think there should be a form of security in place at those stores and be handing out stuff like that to people who need it in an orderly fashion, not the way its being done so far.

That is a good idea. If I was a store owner I would hope that I would do that. It's hard to say what I would really be focused on. But I agree with you that breaking into homes is not acceptable. I just can't imagine, though, what I would do if I was that desperate to survive.
